VIRTUAL HEADSHOTS PHOTOGRAPHY

What is a virtual headshot?

A virtual headshot is a headshot that is taken by a photographer in a different physical location as the subject. A virtual headshot enables a photographer to take your photo without personal contact or having to travel to a location. Using an iPhone or any smartphone, the photographer will use FaceTime, Zoom, or other live streaming video to direct the subject and take photos as normally performed in an in-person photoshoot. The photographer will direct camera, lighting, wardrobe, and the subject’s physicality; using a professional critical eye to capture a quality headshot. In post-production, the photographer may remove and/or edit the background in Photoshop so that it matches a corporate portrait style and other desirable requests from the subject.

How does a virtual headshot work?

Before the virtual headshot photoshoot, you will set up a video call with the photographer to assess the location of the photoshoot. The photographer will call you via FaceTime or Zoom, and ask you to walk around your home or apartment to observe the space and lighting of the photoshoot location.

During the photoshoot, the subject must be assisted by someone else in the household or location to hold the camera phone. The photographer will direct both the person holding the camera and the subject, controlling placement and movement to capture the best virtual headshot.

Generally, the photographer will shoot 50-75 images during a virtual headshot photoshoot. Since the images are already on the subject’s phone, the subject will review the images and send their 2 favorite photo selections to the photographer for post-production editing. In post-production, the photographer will touch up the virtual headshot in Photoshop and replace the original background with a solid tone or an office environment. The final product photo will be returned to the subject, same-day.
